10. Please turn off all notifications to avoid any unwanted pop-ups.
Good to have: practices
1. Find a quiet location. Sit for a few minutes and listen to your environment. The noises around can affect
your Audio Quality.
2. Try to pick a space that is smaller and with soft walls such as curtains. It will keep the sound from
bouncing around which can make your audio sound hollow.
3. Turn off any nearby mobile devices.
4. The camera should be stable, at or above eye level (so as not to stare up at your chin).
5. Your face should be in good, even light, with no harsh backlight or distracting items behind it.
Additionally, avoid mixing light sources (for example window light and lamp light or Incandescent
lighting and fluorescent light) as the different color temperatures will usually be dealt with poorly by
your webcam.
6. Do not sit in front of a window unless you can close the blinds or drapes. On bright days, the camera will
try to close its iris to compensate, causing your face to look dim or possibly reduce you to just a
silhouette.
7. Reduce the clutter in the background and avoid distracting or bright images on the walls. It can be a
distraction for your audience and can detract from the quality of the image.
8. Please do NOT wear all white. Solid colors work best.
9. Avoid small prints, stripes, plaid or intricate patterns these can more or vibrate on camera. Unless
otherwise specified, shirts with logos and trademarks should be avoided also avoid noisy jewelry
(necklaces, bracelets, earrings) as it can be distracting to the viewer
10. Script Notes: If you want to reference a script or notes during your presentation, put them in a digital
format onscreen at a font size comfortable enough for you to read at a distance. Do not rely on sticky
notes or hard copies beyond the camera eye line.
11. Practising: A little time spent practicing this will go a long way toward making you appear more
comfortable in front of your webcam. Also, add extra enthusiasm! The camera tends to diminish energy.
12. If you plan to share your desktop, have the programs ready so that you are not struggling to find
content during your presentation.
